How to create the perfect space buns
Space buns are not a new look, they have been popular for the last few years but they are not going out of fashion any time soon. They are fun, cute and look amazing with a lot of outfits. The biggest drawback I hear from people is that they don’t know how to make them as cute as they are on Pinterest with symmetry and volume. You are not alone. Today I want you to show you how to create those picture perfect space buns so keep reading this step-by-step tutorial and #wearcliphair to show off your style.
Step number 1: prepare your hair
You can wear this look on newly washed or second-day hair. Just be aware that if you have oilier hair that your roots will be on the show. I would recommend that your spray on a little dry shampoo to be on the safe side. Once you have done that brush your locks and some heat protecting serum. This is not essential but if you are creating a half up space bun style I recommend that you curl the bottom third of your hair, this is the same if you are leaving some face-framing strands out.
Step number 2: create your base
Use a rattail comb to create a sleek centre parting from your hairline to the nape of your neck. These are also super helpful if you want to create a design parting like a zig-zag parting. Once you have created you part lightly backcomb either side of your part so that it retains some volume. Brush the sections either side of the part into ponytails. Make sure that you leave your face-framing strands out and any other strands that you want to add detail to your look.
Step number 3: add some volume
Before you create the shape of your space buns it is time to add some volume to your ponytails. If you are using your clip in Cliphair extensions add them around the hair tie elastic, don’t worry the bun will hide the seam. I never think that space buns look their best when they are overly manicured so make sure that you spritz on some hair spray onto your ponytails. It is time to grab your comb again, you are going to get teasing. When I tease hair that is bound together I split my ponytail into sections, I personally split it into 4 sections as I find this the best to work with.
Step number 4: create your buns
To make your space buns start by taking one of your ponytails and twisting it away from your face (similar to a rope). If you want your buns to look smaller, twist your ponytails firmer. Wrap your twist around the base of your ponytail, again making sure that you do this away from your face. Fold the ends of your ponytail underneath the bun and pin it in place. To make sure they are secure add a thin hair tie as well. Repeat on the side and you are done.
