Elle Fanning’s Cannes hairstyle tutorial
Cannes is here and the crème de la crème of the movie world is in France right now strutting their stuff on the red carpet. One actress that does not get enough credit, in my opinion, is Elle Fanning. From Mary Shelley to Teen Spirit Elle has played some really interesting characters, she is the youngest person to be on the Cannes Jury ever and who cannot fall in love with her porcelain skin and golden blonde locks. She looked incredible on day 2 of the festival at the screening of Les Miserables in her plunge floral gown and amazing hair. Today I want to share with you how to get this hairstyle yourself in this step-by-step tutorial. When you have created it yourself don’t forget to show it off by #wearcliphair.
Step number 1: preparation
This style does tend to show off your roots more than others so I would recommend having clean locks for this look or you can add some dry shampoo if you are in between hair washing days. Make sure you don’t’ have fly aways by adding a little serum to your locks and brush your hair so your product is evenly distributed. Create a centre part from your hairline to another nape of your neck. As you are going to be creating braids I would recommend adding your Cliphair extensions behind your ears. Make sure your part is dead straight by using a rat tail comb.
Step number 2: create your braids
Elle did not take any face-framing strands out as this was for a fancier event. If you want to make this look more casual and more your own pick out a few strands you want to frame your face. Focusing on the left half of your hair, divide it into three equal sections. Cross the left third under the central section then do the same with the right third. You have created the first row of your braid, do this all the way to the end of the braid and repeat on the other side.
Step number 3: put your look together
Now that you have both of your braids, it is time to form your style. Take one of your braids and place it across the top of your head. If you can reach behind your opposite ear secure it there or as far over as you can get. The best way of securing the braids is with bobby pins, elastic bands will be on show too much. Do the same with the other braid making sure they aren’t directly on top of each other. If you want your look a little thicker than Elle’s pinch the sections of your braids gently. You went for flowers in a big way. The good thing is that you can use your bobby pins to secure these too. They hide the bobby pins and give this look an appropriately spring flare. Finish by adding some hairspray and you are done.
